The last day of school...

Today was the last day of second grade for these two munchkins. Congrats Miss Jenna for being named an academic all-star...guess you must have an extra sticky brain! For everyone out there wondering how I can have a child with any academic skills whatsoever...a. that's not nice and b. their father is kinda 'mart....not too 'tupid. I am now freaking out that my kids are going to be in THIRD GRADE next fall. It's like being on some crazy amusement park ride that keeps going faster and faster with wierd twists and turns with a few bumps thrown in for good measure. If you'll excuse me, I'm now going to go look at their baby pictures and cry.

Crazy Days...

Hi! Just a post of our pooch...Rick took this photo last weekend. It's kind of crazy around here with all of the end of the year festivities at school. Hopefully I'll have some interesting photos to post after tomorrow. Have a great day!

The last week of school...

Miss Jenna said I had to blog this picture...so I am. This is part of their "teacher thank you cards"...we worked on them this weekend. We have to do SEVENTEEN of them. Yup, I said SEVENTEEN...it was in caps, couldn't ya tell I meant it? Not that I like quoting "Hillary" but, it really does appear to "take a village". In fact, Rick made this comment after walking through the hallway at the kids school..."Does eveyone know Sam?" I have taken the kids to a movie and had high school kids come up and say "Hi, Sam"...I then proceed to ask Sam how he knows this person, to this reply..."Oh, that's Kelly, she helps with swimming in Mr. Bense's class". Oh. Apparently you can just substitute the kids name and the class they've helped out in to suit the situation...who knew? We are so blessed to have the team we have to work with Sam, they do an awesome job...I don't know where we'd be if we hadn't moved here. Having said that, I always start to break out into hives this time of year when I realize that end-of-the-year teacher gifts are days away. I know I should start working on these oh, I don't know, in February maybe? But, I don't...I wait til the last minute 'cause that's just me. According to Rick, it works best if you don't try to understand me, just love me for who I am...it's easier. Amen.

Memorial Day...

Jenna had the honor of being part of the Le Sueur Memorial Day celebration. The boy scouts and girl scouts placed the wreath at the memorial. It was very impressive and there were a lot of people. She asked me after why people had to die during wars...so, we talked about it on the way home. I think I answered her questions but, she was still a little sad...me too. God Bless all the troops who never came home.

Spring

If this isn't a sure sign of spring I don't know what is. This nest which appears to have been hijacked by two different types of birds...how rude, is right at the edge of our yard. Not to be too gruesome but, it seems to be a little too accessible. I mean if we can stick our noses right smack next to it then couldn't some mean critter with cruel intentions? Let's all say a prayer that the little ones come out alright...I'll keep you posted.

Country Boy...

These pictures are reason number 487 why we live in the country. Every eight-old-boy should be able to spend hours exploring the woods and climbing trees. And don't worry we've had the tick discussion, visuals and all, a few times already. And much to Aunt Julie's dissapointment we did not teach them to pull the legs off the poor, unsuspecting, little woodtick. Hey, Mom if you're reading this, I think you should have paid more attention to what Jules and Ron where up to when we were kids. This brings up another point...why is our dog vaccinated for Limes disease and we humans are not, hmmmmmmm. Have a wonderful day and if you live in central or southern Minnesota...GO OUTSIDE AND ENJOY THE SUN...NOW!

Sticky Brain

Conversation from 7:50 A.M.

Jenna: Mom, remember ___________________ ?

Editors note: I really don't remember exactly what started this conversation. After reading this post you will understand why I don't remember but, my daughter has the most amazing recall...it could be something that happened to her in pre-school and she can recall it like it was yesterday. And to top it off she just pulls these things out of thin air at 7:50 in the morning...that's just unfair on so many levels.
Me: No
Jenna: Well....blah, blah, blah
Me: You just have a sticky brain
Jenna: What's that?
Me: Well, it seems that everything that goes in your brain just sticks there.
Jenna: Oh. Mom, you don't really have a sticky brain, do you?
Me: What makes you say that?
Jenna: Because when we play "Stare" you get some of the answers wrong.
Me: Oh, I guess your right...but, my brain's kinda old.
Jenna: Yeah, I guess so.
Luckily for me we pulled into the school parking lot at that point 'cause it could have gone dreadfully downhill from there.

Hi

I just like this picture...they both look so sweet and innocent. Nice, but I don't think they're foolin' anybody.
We have a lot of water around our house, and I mean, A LOT of water. So far, it's been pretty cool...we have some wood ducks hanging out and they're fun to watch. One drawback is that in addition to lots of water we also have an eight-year-old boy...very interesting combination. The other day this orange ball appeared in the water...hmmmmm. I'm sure you can guess where I'm going with this. Someone (see above picture) decided to retrieve the ball...he started with a long stick (not quite long enough) then, moved to a rake (still not long enough) and then he just went for it and walked right through the water. Upon realizing that he was now soaking wet he just went for broke and started jumping from the fallen tree into the water...I'm guessing for maximum splashing...it worked.

Flying Dog...

I've been trying to get a picture of my Frisbee freak of a dog in action for oh, about a year and this is the best I've been able to get. If anyone out there has any advice on how to get a good action shot please e-mail me. Keep in mind that I have to keep a look out for wayward Frisbee throws from my hubby...they occasionally come close to hitting me in the head. He swears it's by accident but the smirk on his face says otherwise...paybacks are inevitable!

Everyday life...

We live in the country, it is spring, we have a dog who plays frisbee, said dog has white paws. What does all this mean? It means that Rick had to carry our 55lb dog to the bath tub...'cause being the good country folk that we are we put ivory carpet on our stairs and upstairs hallway. WHAT WERE WE THINKING!!!!!

This is Sam's new game...balancing on a basketball. As this photo illustrates he does pretty well at this game, although, if you take a look at the grass stains on his knees you'll see that it did take some practice. Just a side note: Sam has made so much progress with strength, coordination and balance that he no longer qualifies for physical therapy...woooooo hoooooo! We'll all miss Lindsay who has been his therapist since age four...THANK YOU, LINDSAY!!

I gotta go get ready for work...that sounds really weird! For those of you who don't know I am now employed by the school district. I guess they figured that since I'm there all the time they should put me to work. Actually, I'm just a sub for the staff...kinda nice just working here and there whenever.

Pink Socks

Rick: "Why is my son wearing pink socks?"
Me: "Well, today is arbor day and the second grade planted a tree at the park and Sam's feet got wet because I let him wear his shoes that have a teeny tiny hole that allowed the water to soak his foot and I forgot to check and see that his extra socks were still in his backpack and the extra pair his teacher had happened to be hot pink"...that's why.
Rick: "Oh good, I thought he picked them out"
Let's just add this to the list of reasons why I won't be mother-of-the-year...man, that list is getting really long!

This is what you get when you tell and eight-year-old to make a funny face...

I'm so entertained by every day life in this house...maybe I need to get out more?
